ABOUT

DR. AMANDA (MANDY) BRISEBOIS

I am happy to introduce myself as a physician who has been in practice since 2000. I am certified in both specialist and general medicine, as a General Internal Medicine and Palliative Medicine specialist with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Canada, as well as Palliative Care with The College of Family Physicians of Canada. Through my career, I have seen significant changes in practitioner autonomy and ability to integrate into and influence our health system. I also have seen changes in culture, generational divides and a great desire to integrate life into practice.

The 2019-2022 COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted us all. We have more desire to live our lives in a way which we see as fruitful and rewarding. To support my colleagues through these changes, I have become certified in Wellness Coaching, Executive Coaching (with healthcare specialization) and have undertaken Conflict and Mediation certification (pending Dec 2022). I am close to completing a Master of Management through McGill, the International Master of Healthcare Leadership. I have completed over 20 Physician Leadership Institute courses, a mini-MBA through London School of Economics, Leadership Training through Oxford, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training through UBC and health information certification through Berkeley. These skills help me understand workplace issues and struggles.

My extensive clinical experience on the front lines, as well as in community practice helps me to understand my colleagues’ experiences. In addition to clinical experience, being a Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta, a high-level leader since 2014 (Facility Chief of Medicine, Medical Director Grey Nuns Hospital, Associate Chief Medical Officer), a published author in my area of expertise and an accomplished educator (over 20 major teaching awards zone wide and provincially) helps me relate to many diverse issues that practitioners face.

I look forward to working with the EZMSA and you, our members, in this significant role.

Regards,

Dr. Amanda (Mandy) Brisebois MSc, MD, FRCPC, AoDI, CEC, BCC
