  • February 29, 2024: Alberta Government Opting Out of the Pharmacare Deal for Diabetes Medication

It is inconceivable that our provincial government would refuse Albertans the same benefit as all Canadians. The Alberta government must rethink the needs of Albertans and provide them with diabetes medication health insurance coverage when the federal program is available. 16.8% of Albertan woman and 18.3% of men do not have a government, employer or association insurance plan. 26% of Albertans have type 1, type 2 diagnosed, type 2 undiagnosed or prediabetes.

  • February 27, 2024: Alberta Government Denying Albertans the Federal Birth Control Deal

On February 23 the federal NDP and Liberal parties announced they reached a deal to provide Canadians free coverage for birth control, yet the Alberta government has said they will opt out for our province. 16.8% of Albertan woman do not have a government, employer or association insurance plan. Albertans must receive the same coverage for free birth control as the rest of Canada—it is absurd to play politics with the health of our patients and deny Albertans this groundbreaking program.

  • January 8, 2024: Free birth control would benefit Alberta's health care, economy

On Nov. 27, the UCP voted against the following motion, “Be it resolved that the legislative assembly urge the government to consider taking the necessary steps to provide universal access to free prescription contraception, including oral hormone pills, contraceptive injections, copper and hormonal intrauterine devices, subdermal implants, and emergency contraception known as Plan B.”

If you are a young woman, who is reproductively responsible, but is finding it hard to make ends meet, or a husband or father of daughters who thinks that your children or grandchildren should be given the best chance to avoid being reliant on social-support programs, or a women suffering from severe and disabling PMS, perhaps you could drop the Alberta government a letter explaining you support free hormonal therapy and IUDs for all women who need them in Alberta.
