HEARING COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP

AHS Central Zone is currently recruiting for one additional member required to fill vacant positions for the Hearing Committee and Immediate Action Review Committee Pool. Hearing and Immediate Action Review Committees support the concern resolution processes as outlined in Section 6 of the Medical Staff Bylaws and 2.13 of the Medical Staff Rules.

The criteria for selection of the designate shall include but are not limited to:

  • representation from a cross section of specialties;

  • geography within each Zone;

  • representation of various practice settings;

  • not currently serving in an AHS or Zone Medical Staff Association or other Practitioner advocacy organization leadership position;

  • possessing an interest in/experience with disciplinary processes/hearing committees;

  • having a reputation for fairness; and

  • extensive clinical experience.

The term of the provincial pool of Hearing Committee designates shall be for three years renewable once.

Role Responsibilities:

A Hearing Committee is required when Consensual Resolution is not possible following a Triggered Review. The Hearing Committee shall receive information, hear evidence, consider the Concern, and prepare a report and make recommendations within sixty (60) days of the request to do so.

An Immediate Action Review Committee shall be called in the event of the immediate suspension or restriction of a Medical Staff Appointment and/or Clinical Privileges by the Zone Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, or their delegates without first conducting a Triggered Initial Assessment or Triggered Review. The Committee shall consider all relevant information and evidence and prepare a report and recommendations within seven (7) days of the request to do so.

All Hearing and Immediate Action Review Committees will have the support of independent legal counsel to assist you before, during and after the fulfillment of the duties under the Bylaws. They will have access to liability coverage through AHS Liability Protection Insurance Plan.

Members shall be compensated for their professional services and travel during the participation in Hearing or Immediate Action Review Committees in accordance with CMO policy.
